June 2020 Update

As the shops are opening and things are getting into some sort of normality, why not get your chimney swept now ready for winter. A clean chimney is a safe chimney. Clearing chimneys of soot can help make the smoke that leaves houses cleaner – not to mention help prevent the 7,000 chimney fires that ignite every year in England. So if you book with us before the end of August 2020 we will give you a 10% discount on today's price.

More than one million British family homes warm their cockles with a wood-burning stove during the winter months. This year, however, they will face a crackdown, after the Government announced plans to outlaw all but the cleanest stoves by 2022 as part of its wider Clean Air Strategy.

The Government will ban the sale of stoves that don't meet environmental standards, encourage the sale of cleaner wood and ask those who own older, less green stoves to consider upgrading. So why not get you chimney swept and tested ready for your new stove which you can buy from Burns & Mason, Tolworth KT6 7HT. Stoves were flying off the shelves before lock down so don't miss out. Why not renovate your existing fireplace through P J Wright & Sons Rear of 61-63 Westow Street, Paxton Mews, London SE19 3RW.
There are a couple of measures you can take if you already own a stove to make wood-burning more environmentally friendly.

The best thing to do if you have a stove is to ensure you're burning dry wood, it will cut the emissions and give you more heat. For those who burn wood they have chopped themselves, It's recommended letting it dry for two years before putting it on the stove.

If you cut a tree down today it will be around 60 per cent moisture.

To get to a point where it is safe to burn, cover the wood and leave the sides open, so the wind can dry it, then wait for around two years.
You can also get your logs seasoned from Sunray Farm 59 Woodmansterne Lane SM2 4BJ

We as a member of the National Association of Chimney Sweeps and HETAS will wear a mask and gloves while working within your house.

We hope you are all well and keep safe.
